Join Us

JOINING: Provided your child meets the MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS as shown below, they can join Sussex Tristars, the Junior section of Brighton Tri Club. The membership fee is £20 for the year, valid from 1st October to 30th September inclusively.  To join, please click the button below, but please note that it must be the parent or guardian who signs up on behalf of each child!;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • AGE: Your child must be aged 8yrs to 16yrs old. The rules for the swimming pool that we use stipulate that to swim without a parent your child must be 8yrs old so we can't be flexible on this I'm afraid.  Once a member reaches 14yrs we add them to the 'Youth' group.  Dependent on numbers the Youth section trains separately to the Alistairs and Jonnys in a separate lane in the pool and with longer distance run sets and cycles.
  • ABILITY: If your child can run, has a helmet and a roadworthy bike that they can ride and can swim a minimum of 100m continuous front crawl non stop and unaided, they are more than welcome to join in the fun.  Note that we do not teach the children to swim, we work on their technique to make them more efficient and faster.  Swimming competency tests are carried out at the first session your child attends.

COME AND TRY US OUT: You don't need to join the club to come and try us out.  Provided your child meets the MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS as shown above, just come along on a Sunday morning that we are training and make yourself known to a coach. We'll ask you to complete a short Parental Consent form and pay £5 for the session and the fun can then begin. If your child likes it then of course, we'd like you to Join Us by clicking the big blue button above!

WHERE: Ringmer Community College, near Lewes, BN8 5RB

WHEN: Most Friday evenings and Sunday mornings during school term time but please check the calendar each week just in case of any last minute changes.

TIME: The Friday session runs from 7pm to 8pm and the Sunday session runs from 9.30am to 11.30am but please arrive at the Community College pool reception 15mins early to allow for signing in and getting changed.

COST: Training is for Members Only - please join up using the button above. We then charge £5 per child for each session,  payable at the swimming pool reception upon sign in. Please note that all of the coaches are volunteers and the income received, along with any other donations or sponsorship, is used to pay for the facilities that we use, for the coaching equipment, Triathlon England club membership (and insurance), DBS checks and for the continued coaching and welfare education of these volunteers.

PARKING: There is ample free car parking at the front of Ringmer Community College.

PARENTS: We like to encourage parents to either help organise the children, go for a run, go for a cycle or swim (cost is £4/adult payable to the club) or stay around and watch what their children are doing.

EQUIPMENT: We recommend that you purchase some swimming fins for your child. You don't need to own a hi spec bike to join us but you do need to make sure that it is road worthy, that the brakes and gears work and most importantly, that your child wears a properly fitting cycling helmet. Please see our FAQ for a note on setting the saddle height correctly on a bike.

CLOTHING: For the swim, swim trunks, googles and a hat for long hair please.  For the run and bike, sports clothing is good together with trainers.  Please also add gloves, a hat and a jacket of some sort if the weather is cold.

FOOD & DRINK: 2 hours of swimming, cycling and running can be tough for the kids so please bring a water bottle and dependent on when you will be having lunch, a small snack bar perhaps for afterwards.  We usually reward the children with some small sweets at the end of the session too.

SAFEGUARDING OF THE CHILDREN: Looking after your children whilst they are with us is key to our principles.  To this end we have developed our own Safeguarding Policy.  Please do read this and make your children aware of the procedures to follow if ever they have any issues.
